BMS appoints Chuck Hewitt to further propel its US platform

Independent global broker BMS today announced that Chuck Hewitt has joined its US based reinsurance operations as a senior producer, Executive Vice President and member of its US Leadership Team. He will divide his time between Boston and BMS’s New York office.

Chuck Hewitt commented:

Hewitt has had a long and distinguished reinsurance career. He spent over 28 years at E. W. Blanch / Benfield, initially in the Chicago office and then opening up the EWB Boston office in 1992, building it into a highly respected and strong revenue generating operation. In 2007 he left to join Guy Carpenter as co-head of their Eastern Region, where he recreated the Boston dynamic, produced a sizeable book of brokerage, and became a founding member of the Executive Strategy Team focused on working with clients and prospects on their strategic issues and challenges.

BMS hires Glenn Kerr to spearhead its push into Australia and the Asia-Pacific region

BMS Group, the leading independent global broker, today announces that it has achieved another major strategic goal with the appointment of respected Australia-based facultative broker, Glenn Kerr.

Kerr, formerly of Aon Benfield, will join the BMS wholesale team, led by Nick Cook, upon completion of his contractual notice period. He will be based in Sydney and his role will be to lead the continued growth of BMS’s wholesale and facultative business in the Asia-Pacific region.

BMS Wholesale CEO, Nick Cook said:

BMS launches global construction initiative

BMS announced the launch of its global construction initiative, responding to the needs of its clients around the world.

Gavin Madell, previously Director of Price Forbes’ Power and Construction business, joins the BMS Wholesale, Risk Solutions Team to lead the new initiative.

BMS launches new global construction initiative

BMS Group, the independent global broker, announces today that it has launched a new global construction initiative. Gavin Madell, with over twenty years’ experience, will lead the new team. The construction team will provide an enhanced service for BMS’s clients, and demonstrates the company’s on-going commitment to building new product lines across the business.

Gavin joins from Price Forbes, where he was previously Director of its Power and Construction business. He will be supported by David Lazell on the General Liability side, and Paul Hutchinson on the Professional Indemnity side. Steve Ferns, who joined BMS five months ago from Lockton, will head up Construction Claims. All members of the team have extensive experience, with particular focus on the US, Canada, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Nick Cook, CEO BMS Wholesale, today commented:

BMS is committed to continuing our expansion of the global wholesale division with a range of products to best fit our clients’ needs. Gavin Madell is the latest of a number of experienced producers to join BMS Wholesale. A new hire for BMS highlights it commitment to achieving its vision

Insider Fac Magazine reviewed BMS’ expansion plans, prompted by the appointment of Steve Galleger as EVP. Formerly of Aon Benfield, Galleger’s responsibilities will include building BMS’ US reinsurance platform and developing customised reinsurance and risk management solutions for property, casualty and specialty insurers. Steve will start at BMS in December and will be based in the BMS US hub office in Minneapolis.

CEO Carl Beardmore is quoted saying: “This marks another important step in the development and extension of our US operations and is further evidence of our ability to attract key producers to join BMS.”

BMS appoints Steve Galleger to help build its US platform

Independent global broker BMS today announced that Steve Galleger has agreed to join its US based operations as Executive Vice President. His responsibilities will include helping BMS to drive the build out of its US reinsurance platform and to develop and deliver customised reinsurance and risk management solutions for Property, Casualty and Speciality insurers. He will be based in the Minneapolis office.

Steve’s extensive experience in designing, placing and executing reinsurance and risk management strategies for some of the most prestigious and successful insurance companies in the US, is exactly the kind of executive talent we are looking to recruit. Steve joins BMS after 21 years at Aon Benfield. He began his career in 1990 at E.W. Blanch Company in Minneapolis, MN. While there he serviced a number of Midwest regional and super regional clients, before transferring to the newly expanded EWB Dallas office where he first led a number of client service teams, before taking over production responsibilities for the Dallas and lower Southwest regional area. After Benfield bought EWB in 2001, Steve returned to the home office in Minneapolis continuing his role as head of the production for the upper Midwest area as well as servicing a number of clients. Steve was awarded Benfield’s 2007 Broker of the Year Award. Steve has extensive experience in structured reinsurance contracts, MGA/fronted programs and catastrophe reinsurance for both hurricane and tornado/hail driven portfolios. He has a BS from St. Cloud State University, graduating in 1990.

BMS expands its analytics team with two new senior hires

Independent global broker BMS Group today announces that it is continuing to invest in its analytics business with the appointment of two industry experts:

  • Julie Serakos, Executive Vice President, Catastrophe Modelling
  • Mike Larson, Executive Vice President and Actuary for BMS Intermediaries

Julie will join BMS this week to lead the Catastrophe Modelling department.  She joins from Willis Re where she built up the company’s catastrophe risk modelling and advisory services business becoming the Executive Vice President in their Property Resource Division.
