Two more new hires for BMS Group MGA Operation

Pioneer and JH Intermediaries the MGA arms of the BMS Group, today announces the addition of two new employees:

  • John Andrews, Business Development Director
  • Jade Bolton, Business Development Assistant

BMS launched Lloyd’s Managing General Agent, Pioneer Underwriting in April 2011 to underwrite a diverse portfolio of business with an initial premium capacity of £62.5m. The team is led by Darren Doherty, Managing Director.

John Andrews joins as Business Development Director and will be responsible for developing program related business for Pioneer Underwriting and JH Intermediaries.  John has over 20 years experience within the MGA & delegated authority arena and joins from Glencairn.  John will report to Darren Doherty.

Jade Bolton also joins as Business Development Assistant. Jade brings with her 7 years experience within the insurance industry with particular expertise in underwriting casualty & professional lines MGA and delegated business.

Pioneer Underwriting at BMS Group takes on Marine Underwriter

Pioneer Underwriting, BMS Group’s recently launched Lloyd’s MGA, today announces that Amy Fu joins the team as a Marine Underwriter.

BMS launched Lloyd’s Managing General Agent, Pioneer Underwriting, in April 2011 to underwrite a diverse portfolio of business with an initial premium capacity of £62.5m. The team is led by Darren Doherty, Managing Director.

Amy joins from Swiss Re where she gained extensive knowledge of the Asian insurance market working in its offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore.  Prior to the insurance industry Amy worked as a financial analyst at Reuters in China, she holds a Bachelors Degree in Finance.

BMS appoints new Non-Executive Director

Independent specialist broker BMS Group announced that it has hired a new non-executive director.

James Morley was appointed in January 2011, subject to FSA approval, as non-executive director of BMS Associates Ltd and BMS Group Ltd.

He is a Chartered Accountant with an executive background spanning 30 years as Group Finance Director within a number of listed public companies, including various insurance companies. Over the last few years his business experience has been focused on Non Executive Director & Chairman of the Audit Committee positions within a number of PLCs.

CEO BMS Group, Carl Beardmore said: “I am delighted to welcome James to BMS. We have been searching for an additional non-executive director with specific financial experience to guide and challenge us. James fits the bill perfectly and I look forward to working with him.”

First-ever fully electronic placement via iPad at Lloyd’s market

The placement of the first electronic, fully-placed contract via iPad as well as the Message Exchange took place today marking another step forward in the fast-paced technological advancements in the London Market.

Steve Knight, BMS Direct & Facultative Director walked into Lloyd’s today, 17th January, met with Catlin Syndicate’s Michael Davern at their box and within minutes had refined and placed a contract using the RI3K platform on his iPad – face to face broking in the simplest and most efficient form possible.

Leading independent broker BMS has been working with Lloyd’s on its iPad initiative, alongside the Qatarlyst owned RI3K, to integrate the implementation of the new technology within the London market. BMS are using RI3K, the iPad and the Exchange to establish the ideal electronic trading platform for the London market.


BMS appoints new Reinsurance Operations Officer and relocation of its US hub

BMS announced today that it has appointed Kristine Westall as Senior Vice President, Reinsurance Operations Officer of its US platform. Formerly, Kristine spent over 20 years working for Benfield in their Minneapolis office as SVP, Reinsurance Accounting and Claims. Recently she has worked for John B. Collins Associates, Inc as SVP of Brokerage Operations responsible for providing accounting, claims, IT, contracts, compliance and office services..

The specialist insurance broker confirmed that after a lengthy review of its US office locations it has decided to transfer its US back-office hub, currently based in Dallas, to Minneapolis to be closer to client base and a larger potential talent pool. The Dallas office will in turn become a sales and production hub. Kristine’s role will incorporate the development and implementation of the BMS strategy in the US, while building a team in the new Minneapolis hub to take the platform to the next level.


BMS appoints Chicago VP – James Botsis

Specialist (re)insurer BMS has appointed James Botsis as vice president in its property & casualty team in Chicago.

Prior to his appointment at BMS, Botsis held the position of assistant vice president at Towers Watson in Chicago for 11 years.

BMS said Botsis’ appointment is an important step towards growing both the property and casualty team and the company’s broking business.

Robin Greville Williams, managing director of property and casualty, said: “James has a track record for excellent client service, a strong business development capability and is an agriculture specialist, which makes him exactly the type of reinsurance broker we want to invest in as we expand our team.”

BMS grows US P&C team with new senior hire

Independent (re)insurance broker BMS announced today that it has appointed Jack Hickey, who will be joining the property & casualty team based in Shelton, Connecticut. His primary area of focus will be in the North-East – where the majority of his clients are based.

Managing director of the BMS Intermediaries P&C team, Robin Greville Williams said: “We have a clear strategy and have set ourselves ambitious targets to grow our broking business. Developing the breadth and depth of our production capabilities is core to that strategy and Jack is exactly the type of reinsurance broker we want to invest in as we develop the P&C team and business at BMS.”

Prior to joining BMS on 1st October, 2010, Jack was a Senior Vice President at Aon Benfield in New York for 10 years. He began his reinsurance career in London during the 1980s with Willis Faber & Dumas.

BMS appoints Cook to expand direct and wholesale platform

Independent London market (re)insurance broker BMS announced today that it has appointed Nick Cook, former Chief Executive of Glencairn, to the new position of CEO of its London market wholesale business. Cook will also become an executive director and – subject to FSA approval – will join the board of BMS Group Ltd.

Carl Beardmore, CEO of BMS Associates Ltd, the group holding company, commented: “Our strategy is to achieve some ambitious targets in the next few years, both through organic growth and acquisitions that will increase the breadth and depth of our production capabilities.

BMS expands US P&C capability

BMS, the specialist insurance group, announced today that it has recruited John Faustman to extend its capability to provide reinsurance solutions for regional US insurance companies.

Mr Faustman will spearhead the opening of a new BMS office in Philadelphia to support this business.  Cover provided out of the new BMS office will include Property & Casualty (Excess of Loss and Quota Share), plus Property Catastrophe, Casualty Clash, Workers Compensation, Umbrella/Excess Liability and Equipment Breakdown programs.

Carl Beardmore, CEO of BMS Associates Ltd, the group holding company, commented: “We have been very clear that we have some ambitious goals for the group and acquiring new teams is a core part of that strategy. We are looking to extend both the number of risk classes in which we are active, as well the reach of our business”.

John Faustman joins BMS following 19 years with Guy Carpenter as team leader and a Managing Director of the Philadelphia operation.  Prior to that, John had 19 years of primary experience (actuarial, underwriting and sales) principally in the Mutual insurance segment.

Stefano Nicolini Joins BMS Re

BMS are pleased to  announce the appointment of Stefano Nicolini, as Senior Vice President concentrating on Industry Loss Warranty (ILW) business. Stefano will be based in New York and report to Jonathan Morris, Managing Director of BMS Re.
