BMS hires Glenn Kerr to spearhead its push into Australia and the Asia-Pacific region

BMS Group, the leading independent global broker, today announces that it has achieved another major strategic goal with the appointment of respected Australia-based facultative broker, Glenn Kerr.

Kerr, formerly of Aon Benfield, will join the BMS wholesale team, led by Nick Cook, upon completion of his contractual notice period. He will be based in Sydney and his role will be to lead the continued growth of BMS’s wholesale and facultative business in the Asia-Pacific region.

BMS Intangible Asset Protection Solutions – Video

At BMS, we recognise that intangible assets have become one of the key areas of risk that are of paramount importance to businesses now and in the future. They cover a very wide spectrum of assets broadly defined by the fact that they are not physical. Wipo figures suggest that over 80% of a company’s value is now contained within these non-physical assets.

Intangible assets can be split into legal intangibles such as patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trade marks or competitive intangibles such as data and know-how.

The MPL Market – What’s the Prognosis?

Since 2006 the Medical Professional Liability (MPL) market has become increasingly competitive, but it remains both healthy and profitable, particularly when compared to other casualty lines. The key challenge faced by the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) member companies is whether they can reverse the declining trend in profitability before the market hits the unprofitable levels experienced in the early 2000’s.

BMS’s recent analysis looks at the results of PIAA member companies (who make up more than 50% of the MPL market) from 2001 – 2010 to look at where results have been and where they might be heading.
