BMS Group appoints James Gordon to lead Cyber & Technology Division as Managing Director

BMS Group Limited (“BMS”), the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces the appointment of James Gordon as Managing Director of its Cyber and Technology Division. He will take up his position after serving his current notice period, reporting to Ian Gormley, managing director, BMS Risk Solutions.

Gordon has 13 years’ experience in the (re)insurance industry and joins BMS from Lockton Companies LLP, where he served as vice president, Global Technology & Privacy Practice (GTTP). Under Gordon’s leadership, the GTTP grew to become the largest such team in the London market, handling all kinds of technology, media and network security related business, predominantly for financial institutions, the healthcare and retail industries. Previous employers include Jardine Lloyd Thomson Ltd. and HSBC Insurance Brokers.

BMS Group appoints Ryan Jones as Director of Cyber Risk Intelligence

BMS Group Limited (“BMS”), the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces the appointment of Ryan Jones as Director of Cyber Risk Intelligence. He takes up his position with immediate effect, reporting to Ian Gormley, Managing Director, BMS Risk Solutions.

Ryan has extensive experience as a cyber risk specialist and has advised a number of (re)insurance brokers, Lloyd’s syndicates and (re)insurance businesses on cyber protection, risk management and building and managing enterprise risk management programmes. Ryan previously had a successful career as a Sergeant of Marines with the United States Marine Corps.

BMS team raises over $140,000 for homeless youth of New York

BMS Intermediaries is delighted to report the successful participation and fundraising achievement of its team who took part in the first Covenant House (re)insurance industry Sleep Out, on September 27th 2015.

Covenant House, a charity based in North and South America, supports homeless youth with the provision of essential services and the tools to build a brighter, independent future.

Seven members of staff took part in the event, spending a night on the streets of New York with their guests, equipped only with a sleeping bag and a cardboard box. In total, the BMS team raised over $140,000, contributing to the overall funds raised of more than $470,000.

They were:

“The efforts made by the BMS team, including our guests from other companies, towards raising sponsorship and awareness around the (re)insurance industry’s first Sleep Out, is testament to this industry’s commitment towards making a positive impact on surrounding communities. The funds raised from this event will make an immediate difference to the lives of homeless young people supported by Covenant House, providing food, clothing, shelter, counselling and job training to those who need it most. As Board Chair of Covenant House I’d like to reiterate our thanks to all those that took part, as well as the co-workers, clients and families that gave their time and sponsorship to the event.”

So far this year, over 56,000 children have been helped by Covenant House. BMS are looking forward to taking part in the event again next year, with the hope of supporting Covenant House’s continued provision of essential services to young homeless people.

BMS Australia announces launch of Brisbane office and the appointment of Sam Mayne as Director

BMS Group Ltd. (“BMS”), the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces the launch of its Brisbane office and the appointment of Sam Mayne as Director of Wholesale and Facilities, reporting to Brett Field, CEO of BMS Australia.

Sam has over 13 years’ experience as a broker to the international insurance markets and joins BMS from Cooper Gay (Australia), where he served as Head of Wholesale. He started his career at Denis M. Clayton, now JLT Re, where he progressed to be manager of the global facilities team. In 2013, Sam relocated from the UK to Australia, where he continued to specialise in the binding authority and wholesale space as a Director at JLT Re.

BMS Group appoints Lawson and Chamberlain as Directors

BMS Group Ltd. (“BMS”), the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces the appointments of Mark Lawson and Daniel Chamberlain as Directors of North American Property, reporting to Ian Gormley, Managing Director of BMS Risk Solutions.

Lawson and Chamberlain both have over 20 years’ experience and join from JLT Specialty Limited (JLT) where, as Senior Partners, they led the North American Property business. Prior to JLT, Lawson was a Partner at Newman Martin and Buchan, where he set up and led the Property and Casualty team. Chamberlain also worked at Newman Martin and Buchan specialising in complex property risks over a broad range of industries. He started his career at Nicholson Leslie, now Aon.

BMS Group appoints David Battman as Head of International

BMS Group Ltd. (“BMS”), the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces that David Battman will join the Company as Head of International in the New Year, reporting to Nick Cook, CEO of BMS.

David joins BMS from Arthur J. Gallagher International (“Gallagher”) where he was Managing Director, International Business Development and a Partner at Alesco RMS. He joined Gallagher in 2006 to develop and help implement the strategy to expand Gallagher’s global footprint and grow its international income. During his tenure, he developed the group’s strategies for regions including Latin America and Asia-Pacific, both of which have since been implemented successfully. David also ran Gallagher’s international broker network, the GGA, matching partner firms’ placement needs with the group’s wholesale capabilities. He recently joined the executive team of Alesco, with responsibility for M&A strategy, distribution and production.

David’s previous employers include Lloyd’s of London, with whom he spent 8 years in roles that included establishing the Lloyd’s Asia underwriting platform in Singapore, and Managing Director, Lloyd’s Spain. Before that, he ran the political risks consulting team at Control Risks Group.

BMS appoints Gilles Bonvarlet as Non Executive Director

BMS Group Ltd. (“BMS”) today announces the appointment of Gilles Bonvarlet as Non Executive Director, subject to regulatory approvals. He joins the company’s board of directors led by recently appointed Chairman, John Hastings-Bass.

Mr. Bonvarlet has over 25 years of experience in the international (re)insurance markets. He joined Brockbank Group in 1994 and following the acquisition by XL Group became Managing Director of XL London Market Ltd. until 2004. He then joined Talbot Holdings Ltd as Chief Operating Officer until 2009.

Mr. Bonvarlet is currently a Non Executive Director of Amlin Underwriting Ltd. and Xchanging Insure Services, as well as the Chairman of One Re Ltd. He has also served as a Non Executive Member of the Lloyd’s Market Board.

BMS appoints Erin Vaccaro as Vice President

BMS Intermediaries Inc. (“BMS”), the independent risk and advisory firm, today announces the appointment of Erin Vaccaro as Vice President of its Philadelphia based Property and Casualty Treaty reinsurance division, reporting to John Faustman, Executive Vice President.
Erin joins BMS from Guy Carpenter, where she served as Vice President. During her eight year tenure at Guy Carpenter, Erin worked in both the Philadelphia and London offices across global Property, Casualty, Workers Compensation and Personal Accident treaty accounts. She is a graduate of the Temple University, Fox School of Business and Management, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, majoring in both Finance and Risk Management and Insurance.
